Summary: Flash point (FP) and Reid vapor pressure (RVP) are crude oil physicochemical
properties used as safety parameters and environment. FP and RVP provide
information on the level of evaporative emissions and risk of fire during transport and
processing of oil or petroleum-derived product. In this paper is proposed a
methodology to estimate FP and RVP in crude oil by detailed hydrocarbons analysis
(DHA) and high temperature gas chromatography (HTGC) associate with partial least
squares (PLS) regression. These techniques were used due to their direct relation with
FP and RVP. We used 129 crude oil samples (with API gravity range of 11.4-54.0)
from Brazilian sedimentary basin. We merge between chromatographic data of the two
techniques to better describe the true boiling point curve. Using the fusion information
of the two chromatographic techniques (DHA and HTGC) was possible to estimate the
flash point with an average error of 5.3 °C and coefficient of determination about 0.9.
The data fusion represents an information gain in the estimation of flash point, however
to estimate the Reid vapor pressure only the chromatogram from HTCG is enough.
The methodology with PLS regression expressed the best results for Reid vapor
pressure with an average error of 0.4 kPa and coefficient of determination above 0.99.
