Welcome to Graduate Program in Chemistry (PPGQ) (PPGQ) at Ufes

  • Research on formative processes of contextualized chemical knowledge, with emphasis on intradisciplinary and interdisciplinary perspectives, related to didactic-pedagogical and experimental aspects in Chemistry, through Problematized Experimental Activity and other educational methodologies for the improvement of knowledge involved in Chemistry Teaching.

  • Development of Analytical Methods for Trace Element Determination Using Atomic Spectrometry Techniques: This involves creating precise methods to detect trace elements in various sample types through atomic spectrometry techniques.
    Analysis of Substances in Diverse Matrices: Researchers study substances found in different matrices, including legal and illegal drugs, poisons, accelerants, explosives, and firearm residue.
    Characterization of Petroleum, Derivatives, and Biofuels: Scientists work on understanding the properties and composition of petroleum, its derivatives, and biofuels.
    Application of Statistical, Mathematical, and Computational Methods (Chemometrics) in Chemical Problems: This area combines statistical, mathematical, and computational tools to solve chemical problems effectively.
    Development of Analytical Methodologies Using Machine Learning: Researchers explore how machine learning can enhance analytical methods. They also focus on experimental planning and mathematical optimization.
    Portable Electrochemical Methods for Food, Fuel, Pharmaceutical, and Environmental Analysis: Creating portable electrochemical devices for analyzing food, fuel, pharmaceuticals, and environmental samples.
    Development and Application of 3D-Printed Electrochemical Sensors: Scientists design and characterize electrochemical sensors using 3D printing technology.
    Analytical Chemistry Applied to Food Characterization and Quality Control: This involves developing methods to assess the chemical composition and quality of food products.
    Development and Optimization of Analytical Methods for Separation, Identification, and Quantification: Researchers work with gas chromatography (GC), gas chromatography-mass spectrometry (GC-MS), and high-performance liquid chromatography (HPLC) to analyze complex samples. These methods find applications in petrochemicals, pharmaceuticals, natural products, and organic compounds.

  • Total synthesis, chemical transformations, biotransformation, and biocatalysis of molecules relevant to biology, pharmacology, and technology.
    Development of analytical methods and biological assays for plants, natural extracts, and food.
    Organic synthesis of chemical additives for the petroleum industry.

  • Synthesis and characterization of coordination compounds, polymers, composites, magnetic materials, photoactive materials, nanomaterials, carbonaceous materials, and metal oxides.
    Investigation of the physical, chemical, electronic, and electrochemical properties of these materials, as well as their applications.
    Spectroscopic techniques for material characterization.

  • Study of phase systems, polymers, surfactant-polymer interactions, and depolymerization of macromolecules.
    Petroleum chemistry and its constituents.
    Application of drilling fluids and polymers in advanced oil recovery.
    Chemical processes applied to bio-renewable matrices.
    Biofuel production.
    Electrochemical recycling of materials, electrodeposition, anodic film growth, and corrosion.
    Development of homogeneous, heterogeneous, and electrocatalytic catalysts.

Welcome to the Graduate Program in Chemistry (PPGQ) at the Universidade Federal do Espírito Santo (UFES).

The Graduate Program in Chemistry offers Master’s and Doctoral degrees aimed at educating and training highly qualified professionals for careers in teaching (both undergraduate and graduate levels), research, industry, and scientific and technological development in the chemical sciences.

Graduate students are expected to acquire a broad understanding of contemporary research in chemistry and achieve significant advancement in at least one of the program’s research areas. PPGQ seeks to attract a diverse and international community of faculty and students, fostering research, teaching, and innovation in chemistry, and promoting academic collaborations with institutions worldwide.

The program is based in Vitória-ES, offering the course of Master Degree in Chemistry since 2006 e the course of Doctoral Degree in Chemistry since 2014 and has an academic qualification profile certified by CAPES, receiving 5 on its last evaluation.

The program already has 305 masters and 107 doctors and counts with 101 students regularly enrolled, being 33 in the masters and 68 in the doctorate.
